TBRI® 101 FAQs

Q: Can I purchase TBRI® 101 for my organization?

A: We are currently developing organizational licenses and will post that information to this page when it becomes available. Please e-mail child@tcu.edu to be added to the e-mail notification list regarding organizational licenses.

Q: What is the format of TBRI® 101: A Self-Guided Course in Trust-Based Relationships compared to other KPICD videos?

A: TBRI® 101 is available exclusively as a digital video. This course was originally designed as a distance training for professionals. Drs. Purvis and Cross created the videos on their own to send periodically to the individuals participating in that training. If you’re familiar with our other videos, you’ll notice that TBRI® 101 has a less produced, more casual look and feel. It’s as if you’re sitting down with Dr. Purvis or Dr. Cross in a casual setting to learn about of TBRI®.

To get an idea of the look and feel of TBRI® 101, you can view the course trailer and Lesson 1 on our YouTube Channel.

Q: What topics are covered in TBRI® 101?

A: A comprehensive menu of the different eLessons in TBRI® 101 is available here.

Q: Is this similar to the online pilot class I took in 2014?

A: It is! We offered these videos as part of a research study we conducted in 2014 with parents. As part of that study, these videos, then called the TBRI Whiteboards, were used as an online training option for parents in the study. Parents who participated in the online training reported significant improvements in their children’s behavioral problems (including emotional and conduct problems, hyperactivity/inattention, and peer problems) and trauma symptoms (including anger/aggression, post-traumatic stress problems, and dissociation). These findings provided the credentials needed for this training to gain evidence based practice status. To learn more about our evidence based practice rating, view the details of the published research here.

Q: How long is TBRI® 101?

A: The video content in TBRI® 101 is 7 hours and 19 minutes.

Q: How is TBRI® 101 different from TBRI® Practitioner Training?

A: TBRI® 101 is a series of training videos. It does not have an interactive component, and is individually accessed through a computer or device. TBRI® Practitioner Training is highly interactive, more rigorous in content, and is designed for professionals. TBRI® Practitioners also earn the ability to train within their organization using the TBRI® Caregiver Training Package at the completion of TBRI® Practitioner Training. Those who take TBRI® 101 are not licensed to train in TBRI®.

Q: How is TBRI® 101 different from the TBRI® Caregiver Training?

A: TBRI® Caregiver Training is taught by TBRI® Practitioners who have successfully completed TBRI® Practitioner Training. It is an in-person, interactive training with curriculum designed by the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development and includes corresponding workbooks for each session. TBRI® 101 is a series of training videos developed and taught by Dr. Karyn Purvis and Dr. David Cross. It does not have an interactive component.

Q: Will I receive a certificate of completion at the end of TBRI® 101?

A: The Purvis Institute will not issue certificates of completion or continuing education credits for those who purchase the course.

Q: May I use TBRI® 101 to train others?
