TBRI®

Trauma‑Informed Care Beyond the Buzzwords

Trust‑Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI®) is a holistic, attachment‑based, trauma‑informed model designed to support children and youth who have experienced adversity. TBRI® equips caregivers and professionals with practical strategies to address behavioral, emotional, and relational challenges by meeting the needs of the whole child.

Trauma can take many forms — from abuse, neglect, or institutional care to experiences such as medical trauma, difficult births, or natural disasters. These experiences can impact a child’s brain, body, behavior, and belief systems, often making it difficult for them to trust the adults in their lives.

Grounded in decades of research in attachment theory, sensory processing, and neuroscience, TBRI® is built on three integrated sets of principles:

  • Empowering Principles® to support physical needs
  • Connecting Principles® to build safe, meaningful relationships
  • Correcting Principles® to address fear‑based behaviors

TBRI® is used in more than 60 countries worldwide and continues to evolve through research, education, and global collaboration.
